{ Golden Milk }

Turmeric tea or “Gold Milk” is an ancient remedy. Turmeric has proven benefits for the digestion and immune systems, and is a natural  anti-inflammatory. It has even been shown to prevent prostate cancer and lower risks of heart disease.

Many recommend a cup at the end of the evening to wind down from the stresses of the day. I recommend drinking this anytime of your day for a quick recharge and immunity boost. I think it is my favorite to enjoy a mug full with my breakfast to start the day.

I knew I wanted to try it to help with inflammation so I first ordered this mix and loved it. After I finished the jar (quickly), I decided I could make my own so I started trying out recipes. This is my favorite combination for golden milk!

{ ingredients }
  • 2 cups of unsweetened coconut milk (or any non-dairy milk)
  • 1 (1/2 inch) piece of Turmeric OR 1 tsp. ground Turmeric
  • ½ tsp. Cinnamon
  • Pinch of black pepper (increases absorption)
  • Tiny piece of fresh, peeled ginger root OR ¼ tsp. ginger powder
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 heaping tsp. raw honey or maple syrup or to taste (optional – exclude if on Whole30)

{ directions }

  1. Whisk coconut milk, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, honey, coconut oil and peppercorns in a small saucepan and bring to a low boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have melded, about 10 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs and top with a dash of cinnamon.
  2. Pour into your favorite mug, find the coziest spot in your home and sip slowly.

Golden milk can be made 5 days ahead. Store in an airtight container and chill. Warm before serving.

  1. Do you prefer to make a 5 day batch or make fresh daily?
