{ Basil Lemonade }

It’s summer and it’s HOT! We all need to make ourselves a big pitcher of homemade lemonade (and why not add some vodka)! Here is a recipe for my current obsession, BASIL LEMONADE! This combines all of my favorite things: basil, citrus, sparkling water and SUGAR!

{ ingredients }

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 large bunch of fresh basil, washed and stemmed
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups of fresh lemon juice (12-15 lemons)
  • 1 bottle of sparkling water
  • 2 cups Vodka (OPTIONAL)

{ directions }

  1. Make the basil simple syrup first by adding the water, sugar and basil to a pot. Bring to a soft boil and simmer, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, strain the basil out and VOILA, you have your perfect basil simple syrup.
  2. Add the lemon juice and simple syrup and stir until combined. Chill. Add the sparkling water just before serving.
  3. OPTIONAL: Either stir in the vodka before serving OR let people add a shot (or more) to their glasses.
  4. Serve over ice with a lemon wedge and basil sprig.
  5. Enjoy!

I borrowed this recipe from here, but for a sugar-free version, this one is a great alternative with maple syrup or honey!
